Actually they based it more on the principles of the Enlightenment, such as the philosophy of John Locke. http://www.articlemyriad.com/influence-enlightenment-formation-united-states/
Oyster - May 5, 2013, 11:35 am
You're right. And the Founders didn't base the country on Christian values and schools were not held in churches either...
PapaFox - May 5, 2013, 9:19 am
Are you trying to say we have no separation of church & state in this country? That would be incorrect.
Oyster - May 5, 2013, 8:40 am
There is no such thing. It is No State Church. Again, twisting the Constitution in an attempt to match an agenda. sad, very sad.

accepting that all the important parts are ridiculous is basically admitting it's a false religion though, not that they'd admit it.
Curlyrocks - May 1, 2013, 5:06 pm
I had a great conversation this morning with a Jehovah Witness that dropped by and we both agreed that god is not the man on the cloud. Almost no one believes that any more. But I do expect fundies to ignore the treaty of tripoly for their fantasy world.
PapaFox - May 1, 2013, 4:43 pm
Actually that would be the beliefs of Biblical literalists, like evangelicals, etc. Most Christians are not Biblical literalists.
Renza - May 1, 2013, 4:36 pm
Good luck trying to convince the religious types of that... most of them believe a bearded guy on a cloud made everything 5000 years ago and fit 2 of all animals on the planet into a small yacht while flooding the planet for a month... facts are useless
PapaFox - May 1, 2013, 4:02 pm
... all the others. In fact, that was the impetus behind Jefferson's Danbury letter, to a**ure the Danbury Baptists they would not be discriminated against just because of their denomination.
PapaFox - May 1, 2013, 4:01 pm
Curiously, reading through the material, it wasn't so much based on distrust of Christianity per se, but rather distrust between Christian denominations at the time. Each one wanted to make sure that no individual denomination had an advantage over ...
Curlyrocks - May 1, 2013, 3:07 pm
I'm not saying the treaty its self needs to stand, but it does give us a look at the level of separation of church and state the founding fathers intended for America. It clearly displays there intention that religion never get in the way of policy.
PapaFox - April 30, 2013, 7:46 pm
If you read the actual decision instead of the Summarized For Dummies version, you'll see it. http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZO.html

I don't see anything in the ruling that supports your bs. You can read (or have read to you) the following: http://www.lawnix.com/cases/dc-heller.html
PapaFox - April 30, 2013, 7:30 pm
You mean the part where they recognized that Second Amendment rights are subject to reasonable restrictions?
StoneTools - April 30, 2013, 7:08 pm
Treaties mean nothing. As a reference look up the treaties we signed with the native americans. They were well worded and not worth the paper they were written on.
StoneTools - April 30, 2013, 7:06 pm
ever hear of District of Columbia v Heller? You might want to look that up.
crankyhead - April 30, 2013, 3:28 pm
I'm pretty sure the term "well regulated militia" appears in there somewhere. Anyone know which amendment that one is?
Curlyrocks - April 30, 2013, 2:29 pm
into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
Curlyrocks - April 30, 2013, 2:28 pm
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility,[Muslims],—and as the said States never entered
Curlyrocks - April 30, 2013, 2:28 pm
Says the opposite in the Treaty of Tripoli (1796) as a matter of fact.

fauxnews - April 7, 2015, 2:54 pm
Nope. Mass murder violates international law and is considered illegal by most civilized countries. Abortion is legal and, according to the law (and as Rebecca points out, the Bible) abortion is not murder.
OTC - April 7, 2015, 2:50 pm
If abortions are birth control, then mass murdering is population control
